Application Information

In addition to the standard Linfield application, applicants to the LEAD Honors Program must submit a supplemental essay or video. Acceptance into the program is based on the following criteria:

  • Academic achievement and promise, leadership potential, self-expression, service to others, curiosity, creativity and the ability to contribute to the diverse intellectual community of the LEAD Scholars program.
  • While there is no minimum GPA to be admitted to the program, most LEAD scholars will have a grade point average of 3.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • While test scores are optional, most LEAD Scholars will have ACT scores of at least 27 or SAT scores above 1300. There will be no penalty for submitting an honors application without test scores.
  • Responses to the brief supplemental prompt below.

If you would like to schedule an optional informational interview, please contact Linfield Admissions or Patrick Cottrell, LEAD Honors Program Director (pcottre@linfield.edu)

Supplemental Prompt

Respond to one of the following prompts with either a short, written response (500 words or fewer) or a short video filmed on your phone (5 minutes or less):

  1. The LEAD Honors Program values learning across differences, broadly conceived. What types of perspectives or experiences will you bring to the LEAD scholars program and the Linfield community?
  2. The LEAD Honors Program emphasizes collaboration and building bridges between diverse ideas. Describe a situation where you brought people together from different backgrounds or perspectives. What was your role and what did you learn from the experience?
  3. The LEAD Honors Program acknowledges that leadership can take many forms. Describe a cause or topic you're passionate about and how you are working to make a difference in that area. This could be through activism, service or simply by the way you approach daily life.
