Application Information

Acceptance into the honors program includes a supplemental essay or video (see below), and will be based on:

  • Academic achievement and promise, leadership potential, self-expression, service to others, curiosity, creativity and the ability to contribute to the diverse intellectual community of the LEAD Scholars program.
  • While there is no minimum GPA to be admitted to the program, most LEAD scholars will have a grade point average of 3.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • While test scores are optional, most LEAD Scholars will have ACT scores of at least 27 or SAT scores above 1300. There will be no penalty for submitting an honors application without test scores.
  • Responses to the brief supplemental prompt below.
  • Opportunities for informational interviews, in person or via Zoom.

Supplemental Prompt

In up to a 500-word short response or up to a 5 minute video filmed on your phone or relevant device, please respond to one of the following:

  1. The LEAD Honors Program values learning across differences, broadly conceived. What types of perspectives or experiences will you bring to the LEAD scholars program and the Linfield community?
  2. The LEAD Honors Program emphasizes collaboration and building bridges between diverse ideas. Describe a situation where you brought people together from different backgrounds or perspectives. What was your role and what did you learn from the experience?
  3. The LEAD Honors Program acknowledges that leadership can take many forms. Describe a cause or topic you're passionate about and how you are working to make a difference in that area. This could be through activism, service or simply by the way you approach daily life.

LEAD HONORS PROGRAM APPLICATION DEADLINES:

  • December 1 (Priority): program acceptance and scholarship notification by January 5
  • January 5 (Priority): program acceptance and scholarship notification by February 1

On a space available basis:

  • February 1:  program acceptance and scholarship notification by March 15
