Why Study Engineering at Linfield?

Engineering at Linfield is built for students who want a clear, supportive pathway into a rapidly growing field. With two majors—mechanical engineering and industrial engineering—you’ll learn in small classes, work closely with faculty, and develop the technical depth and professional judgment employers expect. Our curriculum is aligned with ABET standards from the start and shaped by industry partners who understand Oregon’s workforce needs. Combined with the strengths of a liberal arts education, you’ll graduate as an engineer who can analyze problems, communicate solutions and lead teams with confidence.

Engineering Minor

The engineering minor at Linfield strengthens any major with hands‑on technical experience and a flexible, interdisciplinary curriculum. Students build foundational skills through courses in mechanics or chemistry, electromagnetism, and introduction to engineering, then deepen their pathway with advanced options in areas like statics and dynamics, circuits, materials science, data visualization or machine learning.

With guidance from physics faculty, students tailor the minor to their goals and prepare for engineering‑adjacent careers or post‑baccalaureate engineering programs. A capstone internship or research experience helps students apply engineering concepts to real‑world problems and connect their technical learning to their major field of study.
