Gennie’s teaching passions include meeting the needs of diverse learners and helping students improve their writing. Before teaching college students, she taught adult basic education, high school language arts and, her favorite, middle school language arts. Gennie has translated these passions to her role as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, focusing on student recruitment and retention and faculty development.

Academic interests
Gennie enjoys looking deeper at research questions through the use of qualitative methodology, with a specialty in autoethnography. She is drawn to topics that examine students at the margins in public education and how to make schools more equitable spaces.
