Purchase Requests

The Linfield University Libraries strive to create a strong, coherent, balanced and dynamic collection to support a college curriculum that is always changing. We work to collect the resources required to support our programs as well as student/faculty collaborative research and add several thousand new titles to the collection each year.

Faculty, students, administrators and staff at Linfield can submit library purchase requests to the university librarian (for McMinnville and OCE) or to the Portland campus library director (for Portland).

Faculty requests for one-time purchases (books, DVDs, CDs, scores)

On the McMinnville campus, each academic department has its own process for submitting library purchase requests. New faculty who are unfamiliar with the process should check with their department chair for more info.

Either the department chair or designated library liaison serves as a point of contact and receives budget allocation information. Order requests can be sent to the university librarian in any way that is convenient — via email or as a Word document, via emailed wish lists from Choice Reviews Online or Amazon, via lists/flyers/ads/vendor slips (send through campus mail to Ginny Blackson, A522), etc. Selected materials should meet the standards specified in the Collection Development Policy.

When submitting requests, include as much of the following info as possible:

  • title
  • author
  • edition
  • publisher
  • date of publication
  • ISBN
  • price

Music requests for scores should include as much of the following info as possible:

  • title
  • composer
  • edition
  • publisher
  • opus number
  • date of publication
  • type of score needed (e.g., study score, full score, score + parts)
  • link to item in online store
  • price

The deadline for departmental requests is the Monday before spring break. Allocations not spent by the ordering deadline revert to Nicholson’s general materials fund.

Faculty requests for continuing resources (journals, databases)

Because continuing resources require an ongoing financial commitment, the Libraries usually are not able to add new continuing resources without discontinuing others. Send requests for continuing resources to the university librarian (for McMinnville and OCE) or to the Portland campus library director (for Portland).
