Academic Interests:
My doctoral research examined the growth of bluegrass music and culture in the Rocky Mountain West. My current research explores grassroots volunteer relief after Hurricane Katrina and community resilience in the face of environmental change.

I led a month-long community based service learning course in Mumbai and Varanasi, India to explore the role of NGOs in addressing persistent poverty.

My teaching interests include community sustainability, environment, social theory, ethnographic methods, service-learning, rural homelessness, and music subcultures.
