Teach Middle School
You have two options for pursuing a career as a middle school teacher.
The first is you can major in elementary education with licensure and pursue a middle school content endorsement to teach English language arts, math, science or social studies.
You'll graduate from Linfield with your bachelor's degree and an Oregon preliminary teaching license with an elementary – multiple subjects and a foundational English language arts, foundational mathematics, foundational science, or foundational social studies endorsement.
Teach: | Linfield major: |
---|---|
Middle School English Language Arts | Elementary Education with Licensure & Middle School Content Endorsement |
Middle School Mathematics | Elementary Education with Licensure & Middle School Content Endorsement |
Middle School Science | Elementary Education with Licensure & Middle School Content Endorsement |
Middle School Social Studies | Elementary Education with Licensure & Middle School Content Endorsement |
The second option is to double major in your desired content area and Secondary Education. You'll graduate from Linfield with your bachelor's degree with two majors:
- Secondary Education
- And an additional content area major (e.g;, History, Literature, Creative Writing, Biology)
You will also receive an Oregon Preliminary Teaching License with an endorsement in your subject area.
You can add an English Speakers for Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement to your teaching license by completing the ESOL requirements. The ESOL endorsement prepares you to work with English language learners and families in bilingual and non-bilingual settings. It also qualifies you to work as an English language development specialist.
